The focus latterly has been on lavender that is sold fresh or dried and is distilled on the farm for oil and hydrosol and used for a range of unique products sold at markets and to several parts of the globe via our Island Lavender website. There is great scope for increasing lavender production.
Oak Tree Farm is located along the south side of the Beaufort Mountains in the Alberni Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The captivating natural beauty of the 13.5 secluded rural acres of comprises dairy-quality pasture, forest, natural wetlands, ponds, flower and vegetable gardens, berry bushes, fruit trees, and lavender fields with 1200 plants and 20 varieties.
The open design farmhouse has incredible views of the property and the mountains from oversized windows. It has several outbuildings including a barn with two horse stalls and hay loft, 2 detached workshops with hydro and water; machinery and storage barns, various livestock houses and 2 small greenhouses. Water, the world’s most precious commodity is plentiful and there are two year-round creeks on the property.
Situated in the picturesque Alberni-Clayoquat region of Vancouver Island with the impressive Beaufort Mountains it is a wonderful area for a vast array of outdoor activities. The farm is close to Stamp River, the world-class salmon river. There are hiking trails, mountain biking trails and horseback riding trails; skiing is available on nearby mountains together with more exotic sports. The farm is also close to fascinating towns like Coombs (Goats on the Roof), Qualicum, Parksville, Courtenay, Nanaimo, Bamfield, Ucluelet, Tofino and Victoria.
During our 14 years, the farm has been home to an array of livestock: milking Jersey cows, beef cattle, sheep and orphan lambs, pigs, chickens and ducks as well as a wide array of wildlife. Our many bird visitors included heron, bald eagle, great horned owl, saw whet owl, sharp shinned hawk, red tailed hawk, bufflehead duck, and mallard.
